CAT CURIOSITY

Cat curiosity did not kill Otis, but it used up one of his nine lives. Despite many warnings, poor Otis fell in the pool this morning. I was able to fish him out, but it was scary for him and for me. If I hadn't gotten to him, he likely would have drowned. He cannot be out alone on the patio. Someone must always be there to watch. He was quite upset, but he did recover quickly, spunky little fellow.

The top picture shows him fully recovered and at rest.

Otis Earl Connor

This is Otis, our new family member. We got him yesterday from the Humane Society, and he is one friendly, loving animal. He's eight months old, and his previous family, who had him for two months, moved, and returned him to the Human Society from whence he came to them. We're still getting to know each other, and we want him to know that this will be a secure and permanent home, as his life so far has been a bit erratic.

Anyway, we hope you all get to meet him in the future. I know he'll love our family of friends.

DEATH IS THE GREATEST THIEF OF ALL

Rudi, my loving friend and companion died on Thursday, September 18. He was 18-1/2 years old, which was amazing, as he was a somewhat sickly cat his whole life. We adopted Rudi when he was about six months old. He apparently was born without canine teeth - a huge disadventage to any animal. When he was about four, he began having seizures, and for a long time we didn't know what it was, until a vetinary specialist in Largo, Dr. Oswald, diagnosed him with epilepsy. He began a regimen of phenobarbitol,to control the seizures, which he took for the rest of his life. At about ten years of age he fell, while outside, and shattered his "knee," we rushed him, again, to Largo, where a surgeon put his knee back together. He walked with a limp after that, but he did walk, and run, I might add. No more outdoors for Rudi, but when we moved to Brandon, we had a screened-in pool and patio put in, and Rudi loved to be out there.

Rudi had deep blue soulful eyes, and when he stared at you, it went straight to your heart. He was a fanciful cat, imagining himself a lion or tiger, but best of all, Rudi was a pacifist. He never killed anything, even a lizard. He wanted to befriend all animals. When he spied another being he would fall on his side, and try to play with it.

Rudi's death, naturally, leaves a deep cavity in my heart. We'll eventually get another cat, but Rudi, a link to my past and my youth, will rest eternally in my soul.

THIS IS CHARLEY

This is a touching video about a wonderful, somewhat disabled cat, who has a very loving family. I want to cry for joy every time I watch it.

RUDI

My cat Rudi is 18 years old. This photo of him is from when he was four, but I like the picture. He has been a cat of great infirmity his whole life, but through careful caregiving and a lot of money, and much aggravation (what's a New York Jew without aggravation), we hve managed to get him through life. Rudi rules, and he lets us know that in many joyful and not so joyful ways. We love him to distraction.
